Sometimes you do not know people as well as you thought you did. This was the case for Ed. Ed got into a bit of a bind and when he thought he had no one to rely on he was surprised when an unwitting friend came to the rescue.

Ed was a family man who was always very prudent and kept to himself and his family. Ed worked at an office in the city and had been sitting in the same cubicle for the past twenty-five years. Ed was not the type of man to take chances. He almost never missed a day of work and turned his taxes in months before they were due. Ed was even scared to use a car because he thought roads and driving in general were dangerous.

His whole life Ed had been scrutinized for his caution. His wife loved him very much but it was difficult for her to manage Ed’s fear of risk and chance. Often she and the children would grow tired of the same old routine that took place every night. The family would have dinner, read for an hour, watch television for an hour, then get ready for bed. Every day was the same and nothing ever changed for Ed and his family.

One day Ed’s wife grew sick and tired of the routine and demanded that Ed take the family on a vacation. There was a huge argument that lasted for weeks. It was such a big argument that the routine was broken up and the children were left to their own devices while Ed and his wife argued for hours in their bedroom. But the children could not think of anything novel to do because they were so used to the routine.

The argument finally ended after nearly a month when Ed’s wife threatened to leave with the children if Ed still refused to take time off work and take them on vacation. Ed agreed to take them and began to contemplate the logistics of the trip. Ed became very nervous when he realized that he would have to drive for the first time in many years. Ed was too scared to fly anywhere, and Ed did not have a car.

One day at work Ed was talking to his friend Jerry about the trip. Jerry was a risk taker and a dare devil. Ed told Jerry how he did not have a car for the trip and that he was too scared to fly anywhere. Jerry told Ed that he could borrow his car. Ed was nervous because he did not have any car insurance, but Jerry assured him that with short term car insurance he would be fine.

The day of the trip came and the whole family was excited. They packed up the car and head out for the beach for a week of fun in the sun. Yet on the way there Ed was hit while he was driving across a small intersection. The accident was small but Ed was still upset that he had been stupid enough to take such a great risk by going on the road. But then when Ed called Jerry to inform him of the accident Jerry reminded him of the short term car insurance and that all of the damages would be covered. Ed was elated that his risk had been neutralized and from then on vowed he would take more calculated risks. Ed lived happily ever after and went on many vacations with his and Jerry’s family.
